Jefferson County Court History
Jefferson County's courthouse history is unusually tied to records. In 1914 to 1916, the newly appointed County Court cast more than 280 votes over two days before Culver was chosen as the interim county seat. Voters later made Madras the permanent county seat in November 1916. On January 1, 1917, after an injunction was denied, courthouse records were moved from Culver to Madras.
